Emergency Plumbing Solutions

Clogged toilets, overflowing sinks and leaky faucets are just some of the joys that come with homeownership. If any of this ever happened to you, would you know what to do? Have any of these emergencies happened to you? Did you know how to handle it when it happened? It’s ok if you didn’t. You’re not a plumber. That’s what ASAP Plumbing is here for! Here are some helpful solutions to help you through an emergency plumbing situation.

Burst Pipes

Ruptured pipes can leave behind a big and costly mess. If your pipes are located in your attic or crawl space, they are more susceptible to bursting during freezing temperatures. Insulate your pipes when temperatures begin to drop and maintain a proper flow of heat in the space. If your pipes do end up freezing and rupturing, then quickly shut off your home’s main water supply. Immediately. Most homes’ shut-off valve is located outside, or you may have to turn the supply off through the water meter. This is the concrete or metal box located near the road. Turning off the water supply will help prevent additional damage until a plumber arrives.

Water Heater Problems

If your regularly hot shower starts to run cold, then you may have a problem with your home’s water heater. Suddenly experiencing lukewarm or cold water, leaking, popping or banging sounds coming from the heater leaking? Then you must follow these steps:

  • Locate and turn off the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the water heater.
  • Shut off the water supply to the appliance.
  • If your water heater has a shut-off valve, then turn that off as well. This will help relieve pressure on the tank and reduce the leaking.
  • Use towels to absorb any water on the ground to prevent water damage.
  • Call a plumber immediately.

Blocked Toilet

A clogged toilet may seem like an easy fix. However, if something other than the ordinary is flushed it can lead to a big problem. A toilet with a major clog can cause it to overflow, leaving your bathroom floor covered in sewage and waste. Quickly stop the water from entering the toilet tank by shutting off its valve. This is located behind the base of the toilet. Turn the valve clockwise to turn it off. Call a plumber so he or she can examine the cause of the clog.

Don’t let an emergency plumbing problem cause major damage to your home. Knowing what to do will help prevent a little leak from becoming a major flood. Our experts at ASAP Plumbing can help you through any plumbing emergency.
